Music director duo Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani need no introduction. The duo has given us some amazing songs from Dus Bahane to Nashe Si Chadh Gayi and many more. Their journey in Bollywood has been exquisite, and it’s still a source of inspiration to many. Here’s our list of their top 10 songs.
1. Nashe Chadh Gayi – Befikre
Vishal and Shekhar had never made it to the fourth floor of Yash Raj Studios where Aditya Chopra sits. He called them one day to ask if they would be interested in composing for him. He asked, “Karoge kya?” and they both jumped with joy! He gave them 15 days to compose a song after he narrated them the script of
2. Zehnaseeb – Hansee Toh Phasee
Karan Johar was very upbeat before the release of Zehnaseeb, from his film Hansee Toh Phasee, and believe me, once it gets into your ears, you will also feel the same. The track is lyrical, melodious and has a soothing aura around it. The song has been written by Amitabh Bhattacharya and its video the protagonists’, Parineeti (Meeta) and Sidharth (Nikhil), realization that they have fallen in love with each other despite all odds. The moments are as beautifully captured as the lyrics of the song.
3. Duaa – Shanghai
“Duaa” penned by Kumaar is a moving heartbreak song with a rich voice. There is also this haunting cry in the background that really adds to the feeling and mood. This is one exquisite song and is an all-time favorite that Vishal and Shekhar have ever composed.
4. Balam Pichkari – Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani
We were already hooked with Badtameez Dil when Balam Pichkari came along and took everyone by storm with its infectious beats and absurd lyrics. Balam Pichkari in a way, reinvented days of Madhuri when Bollywood was about
5. Aankhon Main Teri – Om Shanti Om
This song was written after Om Shanti Om was almost complete. It perfectly went with the scene where Shanti meets Om for the first time. Farah Khan locked it at once when she heard it. She wanted it to be yet another tribute to Pancham since the depiction of in the movie was also of that time. Most people don’t know that Vishal and Shekhar’s original lyrics were later corrected by Javed Akhtar.
6. Khabar Nahi – Dostana
Vishal Dadlani is the lead singer of Khabar Nahi. Even though he has Shreya Ghoshal and Amanat Ali for, Vishal stands out and hits the right chord with listeners. A gentle and melodious piece, rightly falling in the romantic genre; a depiction of the state of a lover, who has newly fallen in love.
7. Sheila Ki Jawani – Tees Maar Khan
This song from Tees Maar Khan, starring Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar, was a blast! On one side, they used 40 Nashik dhols to keep it organic, and on the other, they extensively used technology to refine the chorus and female parts of the song. One can also find Vishal featuring in the song as a sleazy director.
8. Criminal – Ra. One
The electrifying voice behind ‘Smack that’, Akon, makes yet another high-adrenalin appearance, joined by Shruti Pathak and Dadlani. This chartbuster is the perfect example of electronic-meets- sounds. Akon lent his voice for another song, Chammak Challo, of the same movie.
9. Jee Le Zara – Talaash
The enigmatic song from an equally enigmatic film is about the conflict of good times and bad times in life. The lyrics urge ‘to live a little more’ and its journey is beautifully represented on screen. Wonderfully shot, this sad number has a life of its own beyond the film.
10. Dhan Te Nan – Kaminey
Dhan Te Nan from Kaminey was possibly the most danced-on track of the year it released. With youngsters letting their hair down to its rocking beats and singing in unison, its catchy catchphrase made this song a massive hit.
